The exact title of the exhibition is Tamara de Lempicka – La regina del moderno (meaning The Queen of Modern) and is curated by Gioia Mori, notable and worldwide famous art historian.
Tamara de Lempicka was born in Warsaw in 1898 but soon moved to Paris, where she started to study painting and took part of the bohemian life of the city. She was an eccentric, extravagant person, famous for her libido: she was bisexual and carried out several affairs with both men and women in a way at the time considered scandalous.
Tamara de Lempicka developed her distinctive and bold artistic style from soft Cubism into the Art Decò, of which she became an icon. She wanted her art technique to be novel, clean, precise, and elegant. She often used nude studies to produce overpowering effects of desire and seduction, as in the paintings dedicated to Rafaela, her lover, but also immortalized Kizette, her only child, several times.
You may see the Tamara de Lempicka exhibition from Monday to Thursday (9.30 a.m. 7.30 p.m.) Friday and Saturday (9.30 a.m. 11.30 p.m.) and Sunday (9.30 a.m. – 8.30 p.m.) at the Vittoriano in Rome. Ticket prices: full € 12,00 reduced € 8,50.

Rome celebrates the 25th anniversary of Marc Chagall’s death with an unprecedented exhibition dedicated to the brilliant Bielorusian French artist and pioneer of modernism.
Chagall exhibition has been entitled “Chagall. Il mondo sottosopra”, meaning Chagall. The upside down world. The name comes after his unique way of representing the world, characterised by dreamlike landscapes where time and space have no boundaries and the established order of things is turned upside down. In fact, Chagall created an inverted, ravishing world where he puts object defying the law of gravity, transfigured animals that don’t belong to any existing species and human bodies extended in a wave-like motion.

A major exhibition in honour of Italian painter Michelangelo Merisi, commonly known as Caravaggio, is on view at Palazzo Venezia, in Rome, (119 Via del Plebiscito), from 22nd December 2010 to 29th May 2011, 10.00 – 19.00, Tuesday to Sunday.

The second in two years, this Caravaggio exhibition in Rome is a not to be missed event for all who appreciate the most expressive Italian Baroque painter, universally rated among the greatest artists of all the time.

However, the Caravaggio exhibition we are writing about is not a common one, it is definitely unique in its genre. With the aim of unveiling the secrets of the creation of the painter’s artworks and his approach to the painting, the exhibition recreates the studio where Caravaggio worked, sheding light on the tools, techniques and methods that he used while painting his canvases.

The Caravaggio exhibition in Rome has the purpose of evoking the atmosphere of the time of the painter’s “Roman years”, and shows by means of mirrors, lenses and optical tools, how the painter achieved that profound sense of light that has so impressed and has been much studied by critics and art lovers.

For this reason, the exhibition has been titled Caravaggio, La bottega del Genio, meaning Caravaggio, the workshop of a Genius.

Don’t miss this great cultural event in Rome, choose among a wide range of cosy apartments in Rome, and pay a visit to the Caravaggio exhibition.

Here are some tips to take a fun Rome Walking Tour: start your tour from Piazza Venezia, at the end of Via del Corso, and admire the towering monument of Vittoriano, dedicated to the first king of Italy Victor Emmanuel II. The monument, built from 1911 and 1935, is also called Altar of the Fatherland.

Behind the Vittoriano is the Basilica of Saint Mary of the Altar of Heavens, with its long staircase. Italian famous football player Francesco Totti and his wife Ilary Blasi chose this church for their wedding. Next to the church is the Piazza del Campidoglio, designed by Michelangelo.
Italian painter Giorgio De Chirico founded the Metaphysical Art Movement one hundred years ago, and today Rome celebrate the anniversary with an exhibition in his honour.

At the beginning of the 19th century, De Chirico developed his original style focusing on the architecture of mediterranean cities, which he painted in an unrealistic perspective characterized by the absence of human beings.
The Enigma of an Autumn Afternoon and The Enigma of the Oracle are among his earliest and most significant artworks.
As it can be gathered from the title, “Nature according the Chirico” focuses on the concept of nature from De Chirico point of view, and aims to represent the many ways he conceived and transfigured nature, whether in visionary urban landscapes or fixed geometric mannequins.

On display are over 120 paintings, on loan from major public and private museums across the globe. They have been carefully selected and arranged in seven theme-based itineraries.
The exhibition is curated by art critic Achille Bonito Oliva, and will run until the 11th of July, at Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome.

The Palaces are: Palazzo Senatorio, Palazzo dei Conservatori, Palazzo Nuovo, built in different centuries but each according to Michelangelo Buonarroti’s designs, who conceived an overall plan for the Square.

Inaugurated in 1734, the Capitoline Museums were the first museums in the world to be opened to the public.

The most famous work contained in the Museums is the equestrian statue of Emperor Marcus Aurelius built in the 2nd century AD, on display in the Palazzo Nuovo. In the centre of the square there is also a replica made in 1981. In the same palace are the Dying Gaul, that is a Roman copy of a Hellenistic sculpture, famous for its extremely expressive pathos, and the Discobolus, a marble statue depicting a discus thrower, copy of the lost original Greek bronze.

In the Palazzo dei Conservatori you may admire a famous Caravaggio’s painting: San Giovanni Battista and, most importantly, the Lupa Capitolina, a bronze she-wolf in the act of nursing Romulus and Remus, which is the symbol of Rome.
