In many years we have seen hundreds of tourists, both foreign or Italian people, coming to Rome and get a little puzzled by this huge city. There are so many things to see and do, and everything is bigger, faster, and sometimes more complicated than it would be in other cities.

Then we wished to clear up at least some of the doubts that could arise when visiting such a multifaceted city, by providing our visitors with an online Rome travel guide, that you may consult, for example, when you come back to your hotel or apartment in Rome at nights, and from which you could take some ideas for the next day.

Keith Jarrett, the most richly endowed contemporary pianist, is going to performe in the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome, next 12th of July. Together with his trio, formed by Jarrett, bassist Gary Peacock, and drummer Jack DeJohnette, he will delight the audience with jazz and classical pieces, as well as free improvisation.

Keith Jarrett studied at the Berklee College of Music and joined the Miles Davis group in 1970’s where he played for several years, while the present trio was founded in 1983. He has been awarded with Polar Music Prize in 2003, and Léonie Sonning Music Prize in 2004.

The concert is going to be held in the Auditorium, Sala di Santa Cecilia, tickets will be sold from the 30th of May and prices go from 50 to 100 €.

Ligabue Concert in Rome

Italian singer Ligabue is going to hold a concert tour next summer in Italy, and the first stage is going to be Rome the 9th of July. He will also sing in Florence the 13th, in Milan the 16th, in Padova the 20th, and in Messina the 24th.

Ligabue is perhaps the most beloved Italian rock musician and his concerts are always crowded with thousands of people of any age. This year a large audience is expected as well, since the official fanclub site declared that over 100.000 tickets have been sold so far, and some dates might be add to meet the request of his numerous fans.

The singer has recently celebrated his 50th birthday, and he boasts a twenty years-long career. He has been part of some different musical groups, but he reached success as a soloist. Among his most famous songs there are: “certe notti“, “niente paura“, “piccola stella senza cielo“, “le donne lo sanno” and many others collected in his best of album.

In May a new album will be distributed to the public, and Ligabue is going to present and promote it throughout his tour. “Un colpo all’anima” will be the first song broadcasted by radio, starting from the 16th of April.

The Concert in Rome is going to be held in the Olympic stadium, where the singer and his fans will certainly create a memorable and exciting atmosphere. We strongly recommend you not to miss the event!

An orchestra of about 70 components is going to play along with all the singers, among whom Carmen Consoli and Irene Grandi are the most eagerly anticipated. Other famous artists who are going to perform at the festival are: Vinicio Capossella, who is going to play a nonstop set of 40 minutes, Paolo Nutini, Roy Paci & Aretuska, Simone Cristicchi and many others.
The event is going to be broadcasted by Rai Tre from 4 p.m. to midnight.

Protest against Berlusconi

Many thousands of Italians have been taking part in a protest in Rome against the government of Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. The demonstrators, called out by the opposition, accused him of changing laws for his own benefit.

The protest organisers also called for employment, education and health to be at the centre of campaigning for this month’s regional elections.

A recent opinion poll showed only low levels of support for Mr Berlusconi. His People of Freedom party has seen its preparations for the regional elections on 28 and 29 March marred by problems over electoral lists. Italy’s top administrative court, the State Council, refused on Saturday to reinstate the ruling coalition’s candidates for the Lazio region, which includes Rome.

The government had passed an emergency decree to ensure its list was included, despite a People of Freedom official missing a deadline to submit the required documents to local electoral officials.

Mr Berlusconi has said the list was excluded as an attempt to damage his party, and that he only acts in the interests of Italian democracy.

Rome Marathon

Rome’s marathon passes through some of the city’s most famous monuments, including the Colosseum and St Peter’s Basilica, the main church and mosque. The Marathon is one of the most important and typical events of the city.

The city also organises Roma Fun Run, a shorter, non-competitive race. Even though the race itself takes place on 21 March, Rome begins celebrating in advance with the Marathon Village, an initiative that includes concerts, shows, stalls and meetings throughout the city.
